Abused Deaf Women's Advocacy Services (ADWAS) provides comprehensive services to deaf and deaf-blind victims/survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking. ADWAS believes that violence is a learned behavior and envisions a world where violence is not tolerated. ADWAS was founded in 1986 and is located in Seattle, Washington. The ADWAS model has been replicated in 19 Deaf communities across the United States. ADWAS established the nation's first transitional housing, A Place of Our Own. We are committed to providing accessible and safe housing for Deaf and Deaf-Blind women and their children.
Established in 1985, the American Jewish World Service (AJWS) is an international development organization motivated by Judaism's imperative to pursue justice. AJWS is dedicated to alleviating poverty, hunger and disease among the people of the developing world regardless of race, religion or nationality. Through grants to grassroots organizations, volunteer service, advocacy and education, AJWS fosters civil society, sustainable development and human rights for all people, while promoting the values and responsibilities of global citizenship within the Jewish community.
The American Sexual Health Association (ASHA) promotes the sexual health of individuals, families and communities by advocating sound policies and practices and educating the public, professionals and policy makers, in order to foster healthy sexual behaviors and relationships and prevent adverse health outcomes.Founded in 1914, our services today provide us the opportunity to make adifference in the health, economic standards and quality of life of people and communities nationwide. ASHA specializes in communications outreach to the public, patients, press, providers, and policy makers by developing and delivering sensitive health information.
Founded in 1977, Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice is a dynamic global foundation providing critically needed financial support to lesbian-led, LGBTI and progressive organizations. Separated by continents, language and culture, Astraea grantees are seizing opportunities, and laying the groundwork necessary for women and LGBTI people to claim their human rights. Today, Astraea is the only foundation in the world solely dedicated to supporting LGBTI organizations in both the U.S. and internationally. We raise funds and issue grants based on the belief that all women can participate in the philanthropic process - from giving to grantmaking.
